Gatorade keeps you hydrated in a game. It refreshes you and helps you keep your cool, so that you can get off of the bench and go back into the game. Some times after a long game, what we need is just that- refreshment. The same goes for our faith. When we get tired from the attacks of Satan and life wears us out, all we need is our spiritual Gatorade: God’s Word. On many bottles of Gatorade you will find sayings such as: “Bring it.”; “Shine On.”; or even “Focus”. We should be challenged to do all of these things in our daily walk with Christ. With God on your side, you can look at the obstacles of the world and confidently say: “Bring it.” (The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8) Since we are called to be lights for God you can go into school or the work place and “Shine On.” (Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.) And lastly when “life happens” and you find that you are spending less and less time with God all you need is the encouragement to “Focus.” Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” You cannot live without hydration, and your spiritual person cannot live without the hydration from the Word of God. When you feel dry and thirsty, look to the Bible. It has that refreshment and quenching effect to the things that dry out your spiritual walk. The ultimate coach has set out the Gatorade to keep you hydrated, but you have to choose if you will drown your thirst in it.
